Find out what noise consultants actually do

Noise pollution is becoming quite a huge problem in most built-up environments today and recently I’ve begun to think that an acoustic consultant could do something to mitigate sound levels.

As it happens, incessant noise pollution is not such a problem as sudden peaks and troughs although in the work environment, continuous noise that isn’t particularly loud is often a problem and give rise to loss of hearing.

Perhaps one of the most important human issues with noise is that it has an adverse impact on sleep and steady low-level sleep deprivation is bad for psychological and thus physical well-being.

To an Acoustic engineer this will be familiar territory. Acoustic engineers use the latest acoustic technology to log decibel levels & pin point sources of noise. By designing buildings to absorb noise energy they are able to significantly enhance the quality of life for anyone in the vicinity and thus improve their well-being as well.

A common problem is due to aeroplane noise levels, especially near busy airports like Charles de Gaulle where aircraft fly in low over inhabited areas. Although there are usually some controls on take off and landing times, busy international and national airports effectively operate virtually 24 hours a day. Noise consultants are being used by airport noise objectors now to record sound levels and then to act as experts in environmental assessment studies.
